MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — Ron Johnson says House legislation prohibiting transgender athletes from women’s and girls’ sports will go nowhere in the U.S. Senate
“There’ll be no Democrats in the United States Senate that will sign on to that I’m fairly confident.” said Johnson. “Maybe one or two, but not enough to pass the bill.”
The Wisconsin Republican says he hopes Republicans in the state legislature pass a similar measure, even though Governor Tony Evers would be likely to veto it.
Currently, 21 states ban transgender students from participating in sports consistent with their gender identity.
