MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A Wisconsin lawmaker has his sights on mental health as a component of gun violence.
Representative Paul Tittl of Manitowoc says there’s a direct link between mental health and the rash of shootings that have plagued the country.
“Either undiagnosed mental health conditions, or diagnosed mental health conditions that weren’t properly treated.” said Tittl.
He and other legislators are looking to expand the scope of Treatment Alternative and Diversion funding, which previously paid for drug, veteran and OWI courts.
“I think if we can try to get more people to get the help that they need, we’ll be in a better place.” said Tittl.
A TAD program was created in 2005 to support efforts that provide treatment and diversion programs for nonviolent adult offenders for whom substance abuse was a contributing factor in their criminal activity.
