WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) – US Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) has announced she is running for reflection in 2024.
“I’m committed to making sure that working people, not just the big corporations and ultra-wealthy, have a fighter on their side. With so much at stake, from families struggling with rising costs to a ban on reproductive freedom, Wisconsinites need someone who can fight and win,” said Baldwin on Wednesday
She was elected to the United States Senate in 2012, defeating longtime Republican Governor Tommy Thompson. That made her Wisconsin’s first woman and the first openly gay member elected to the US Senate. She won a second term in 2018
In the Senate, she has worked with Republicans and Democrats to take on the biggest fights and win, passing legislation to promote Made in America manufacturing, lower the price of prescription drugs like insulin, and expand health care for veterans. She is the author of the Women’s Health Protection Act which guarantees equal access to abortion everywhere in the United States.
No Republicans have announced they are running for Baldwin’s seat, which will be critical for Democrats to hold if they want to maintain control of the Senate.
