MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — If you’re not going to have your taxes done by next week, you should file for an extension.
IRS Spokesman Christopher Miller says you can file that electronically at IRS.gov.
“You electronically file a form called 4868, and then you get an automatic six months to file your tax return.” said Miller.
Miller says you don’t need to have an excuse to file for that extension, but if you do owe taxes this year you’ll still have to make a payment of some kind.
He reminds you that the penalties for not filing your taxes are harsher than if you simply owe money.
