CHICAGO, IL (WSAU) — The Midwest will be the center of American politics in 2024.
More specifically, the 92-mile radius encircling Chicago and Milwaukee will be the center of American politics from July through August, as both major political parties will hold their nominating conventions in those cities.
The Democratic Party made the announcement on Tuesday, selecting Chicago over Atlanta and New York City. The bid had the backing of Illinois’ Governor J.B. Pritzker and the Democratic parties of both Wisconsin and Michigan.
Current President Joe Biden has indicated that he intends to run for another term, though hasn’t made an official announcement. There are some in the party who would like to see him challenged for the ’24 ticket.
The Democrats will gather from August 19th through the 22nd with the United Center serving as the host venue. Democrats also gathered there in 1996 to nominate Bill Clinton for President. Republicans are scheduled to put forward their nominee at Fiserv Forum from July 15th-18th.
