BARRON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Governor Tony Evers has identified the officers killed in a shooting incident in Barron County over the weekend and ordered all flags to half-staff as the state’s police community mourns the loss.
Emily Breidenbach of the Chetek Police Department and Hunter Scheel of the Cameron Police Department were killed when a routine traffic stop escalated into a shootout on Saturday afternoon.
Breidenbach had five years of experience including four years of service in Chetek. Scheel had been on the force for about one year. Additionally, WAOW TV has confirmed that Breidenbach was a 2009 graduate of Merrill High School and went on to Northcentral Technical College in Wausau where she majored in Criminal Justice.
Evers’ released their names in a Tweet Monday afternoon, while also announcing that he will order all flags to half-staff once funeral arrangements for the officers have been made.

The State Department of Justice also identified the suspect in the incident as 50-year-old Glenn Douglas Perry. Officers had pulled him over for a welfare check when the situation escalated. Both Breidenbach and Scheel were pronounced dead at the scene, while Perry was transported to the hospital and later died.
It’s still unclear what led to the shootout.
