ROCHESTER, MN (WTAQ-WRN) — A Minnesota man has been sentenced to federal prison for pointing a laser at an airliner flying over Wisconsin.
Forty-three-year old Nicholas James Link, of Rochester, pleaded guilty to the charge in January.
Delta Air Lines pilots en route to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport reported the laser strike at 9,000 feet, just west of River Falls on the night of October 29, 2021.
Law enforcement was able to track down Link because he also pointed the laser at a Minnesota State Patrol aircraft that night.
A federal judge sentenced him to two years in prison. The Delta flight was able to land safely in the Twin Cities.
