MOSCOW (Reuters) – More than 200 workers were evacuated from a coal mine in southern Russia on Sunday after it filled with smoke, RIA news agency quoted an emergency official as saying.
The incident happened at a depth of nearly 200 metres (650 feet) at the Obukhovskaya mine in the city of Zverevo, Interfax said.
It was not clear what caused the incident or whether any miners were still underground. Officials at the mine could not be reached for immediate comment.
