Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst is bringing back another free agent defender. Justin Hollins is returning on a one year contract. The 5th year pro out of the University of Oregon was originally drafted in the 5th round by the Denver Broncos in 2019. After getting released, he joined the Los Angeles Rams where he started 55 games over the next four years. Cut by the Rams last season, Hollins signed with the Packers on November 24. He appeared in six games with Green Bay, recording two and a half sacks, four quarterback hits with nine total tackles including three for losses. Hollins protects the Packers at the edge rushing position with Rashan Gary recovering from season ending knee surgery last fall. He joins the list of other reserve players Gutekunst has re-signed this off-season including safety Rudy Ford, defensive back Corey Ballentine and tight end Tyler Davis.
Unrestricted free agent safety Adrian Amos is not expected to be brought back. The Baltimore native on Thursday paid a visit with his hometown Ravens.
Some honors have been announced for Packer employees past and present.
Assistant Athletic Trainer/Director of Rehabilitation Nate Weir has been named the NFC recipient of the NFL’s Tim Davey Assistant Athletic Trainer of the year. Weir has spent the past 14 years with the team on the training staff.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton has announced the winners of the second annual Awards of Excellence in support roles. Committees from five areas selected honorees in the categories of Assistant Coach, Equipment Managers, Trainers, Video and Public Relations. Three winners served the Packers. Among the assistant coaches, Sherman Lewis made the list. Lewis was Green Bay’s offensive coordinator under both Head Coaches Mike Holmgren and Ray Rhodes from 1992-1999. The late Bob Noel was among the Equipment Managers honored. He spent 43 years with the Packers as an assistant before being promoted to head Equipment Manager in 1977, a post he held until his retirement in 1993. Finally, Al Treml was cited for his work with the team’s video department. He filmed games and practices part time while working for WBAY-TV in Green Bay for a couple of years before Vince Lombardi hired Treml to handle the duties full time for the Packers in 1967. He held the position until his retirement in 2001 when he was the longest serving video director in the league. Treml was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame in 2008. All of the recipients will be honored at an event in Canton, Ohio this summer.
