ARBOR VITAE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Authorities are reporting another fatal snowmobile crash in northern Wisconsin.
Arbor Vitae Fire and Rescue, just northeast of Minocqua, confirmed they assisted the Vilas County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin DNR in the crash.
Officials say this is the second fatal snowmobile crash over the last three days in Vilas County. Neighboring Oneida County also experienced two fatal snowmobile crashes over the three-day period.
“Snowmobiling should be fun, for families and friends. Not deadly like it is turning into. Please be responsible and slow down. Take your time. Be respectful to other riders and property owners,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.
No other details were released on the incident.
This comes after the Wisconsin DNR encouraged snowmobilers to be safe on the trails Friday, as the state reported five fatalities in the month of January.
After this weekend, that number could be as high as nine.
