MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The State Department of Revenue says this year’s property tax credit from the state lottery is slightly under last year, but still above 2019 and ’20 levels.
Eligible taxpayers got an average credit of $213 this year, down from $230 in 2021. The number is still higher than the previous two years which were both under $190.
“The high average Lottery Credit this year is due to another very healthy year in the Wisconsin Lottery,” said Peter Barca, Wisconsin Department of Revenue Secretary, in a press release. “Strong sales pushed the average credit above $200 once again.”
Lottery players saw two billion-dollar jackpots in the Mega Millions and Powerball games in the last year, which helped to drive sales. One of those prizes eclipsed the $2 billion mark last month.
The Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots have both climbed in recent days as well, which is expected to bring higher sales to start the new year.
