MADISON, WI (WSAU) Because of extreme winter weather around the state, Governor Tony Evers has declared an energy emergency. It will lift some state and federal regulations regarding the delivery of fuel.
The governor said in a written statement that easing those requirements would also make it easier for utility crews to restore power, especially for out-of-state line workers.
The winter weather blowing through the state over the past two weeks has already knocked out power in some areas, after ice and snow built up on trees, snapping branches that then fell into power lines. Parts of Wisconsin will see blizzard-like conditions into Saturday morning.
By declaring an emergency, Evers will implement a 10-day waiver for those providing energy emergency response supplies. The governor says his order will make it easier for heating fuel and propane to be delivered.
