The Poster of the Armory Documentary that Debuts Next Month
The Sheboygan Armory is no more, and the future of the land that remains has yet to be decided. But a film documenting its history and preserving the memory of the iconic fixture, which was required by the State Historical Preservation Office as a condition of its demolition, is now complete and will debut to the public at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 at the Stefanie H. Weill Center.
The Armory was built in 1941, and served as Sheboygan’s main event venue for decades, hosting Sheboygan’s own NBA team, many concerts, festivals and graduation ceremonies among others. It was listed on the State Register of Historic Places in 2018 and on the National Register of Historical Places in 2019 prior to its demolition last year.
The doors to the free event introducing the documentary, “The Sheboygan Armory: A Part of the Community”, will open at 5 p.m. on the 26th with informational booths of historical-related entities on display. Following its debut the documentary will be available to the public via the WSCS website, and a copy of the production will be available for check-out from the Mead Public Library at a later date.
