WISCONSIN, (WTAQ) — The American Red Cross holiday blood drives on Friday, December 23 in Madison and Green Bay are cancelled due to looming severe winter weather and safety concerns for staff, volunteers, donors, and partners. Additionally, the donation center in La Crosse will also be closed December 23.
Blood products already on the shelves help save lives in an emergency when severe weather hits. A slew of upcoming drives remain on the calendar – including major holiday drives December 27 in Milwaukee and Green Bay – to provide people the chance to reschedule or join the constant need for blood.
“While we’re discouraged, we are hopeful donors can join us at other drives in the coming days to ensure a strong blood supply for people in need,” said Mark Thomas, Regional CEO and Southeast Wisconsin Executive Director, American Red Cross.
When it’s considered safe to travel, eligible donors of all blood types are urged to make an appointment to give. Walk-ins are also welcome as space permits.
