MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Governor Tony Evers has announced the dates for the 2023 State of the State and Biennial Budget addresses.
The Governor will give his State of the State on January 24th at 7 PM. The speech will originate from the Assembly chamber at the capitol building.
Evers will return to the Assembly chamber on February 15th to deliver his budget proposal. That message will also come in prime time at 7 PM.
The next biennial budget will cover fiscal years 2023-’25. Both the Democratic Governor and Republican-controlled Assembly and Senate are expected to be at odds over what to do with a budget surplus that’s racing $6 billion. Republican lawmakers want to use the cushion to provide tax breaks over the next two years, Evers has proposed some tax breaks along with extra funding for schools and other areas.
