An alert worker nearly foiled a burglary, and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office is hoping that sharp-eyed citizens can help find what was stolen.
The crime was caught in progress when an employee of Sabel Mechanical in the Fond du Lac County Town of Empire arrived for work just before 5 a.m., spotting two masked men who quickly entered a suspicious vehicle and sped away from the scene. That employee followed the vehicle, providing officials with crucial information of its identity before losing sight.
About an hour later, a Sheriff’s Deputy on a medical call spotted the suspect’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, detaining the three occupants and eventually booking them into the Fond du Lac County Jail on Burglary charges.
A search of area roadways and ditches turned up more evidence indicating that tools stolen from Sabel Mechanical had been hidden in grassy areas in the townships bordering the Sheboygan County line. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Detective Derek Rehnfeldt is asking that citizens finding any tools on their property to call him or the non-emergency number at the Sheriff’s Office with the information.
