MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) – Wisconsin’s wolf population dipped after last year’s court-ordered wolf hunt.
A report filed with the Natural Resources Board last week shows that Wisconsin’s wolf population is estimated at around 970 animals, which is down about 14 percent.
DNR large carnivore specialist Randy Johnson says that despite the dip in numbers, the wolf population remains stable and healthy.
A court ordered the wolf hunt in February of 2021 due to a lawsuit from an out-of-state hunting group. Hunters killed 218 wolves in three days.
