(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 8, 2022 โ After enjoying a stellar sophomore campaign, highlighted by three A-main victories at Gravity Park Speedway in Chiton, third-year B Mod competitor Jonathon Baumann of Sheboygan is looking to hit his stride as a full-time competitor in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing B Mod division, during the 2022 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis.
Through the first five nights of the 2022 PDTR season, Baumann sits a solid fourth in the B Mod points standings, 40 points behind current point leader Shane Long of Sheboygan Falls.
โMy goals this year are to add a couple more feature wins to my resume and get back to the same level of success we saw last year,โ Baumann said.
Born into a racing family, the sport of racing has been a big part of Baumannโs life literally from day one.
โWhen I was born, my parents already had my older sister on a sled racing snowmobiles,โ Baumann said. โWhen I turned 4 years old, it was my turn and they put me on a kitty kat sled. Ever since then, Iโve been involved in racing.
โIn 2008, I started working for race teams and that just kept growing my passion for racing,โ he said. โI started snowmobile racing in 2004 and I continued with that until 2019. I then started racing dirt cars in 2020. I started my rookie year at Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton , which is where I took rookie of the year in the Sport Mod division in 2020. Last year, I ran at Gravity Park Speedway full
time as well. When we had the chance, we ran a couple nights at The Plymouth Dirt Track during the 2021 season. Last year was a great year as I took home three A-main wins at Gravity Park Speedway.โ
After enjoying remarkable success in just his second year behind the wheel of a dirt track racecar, Baumannโs Shark Motorsports team has focused their points racing efforts fully on the PDTR B Mod division during the 2022 campaign.
โThis year we decided to run for points at The Plymouth Dirt Track,โ Baumann said. โOn our off nights at Plymouth, we have hit a few different tracks such as 141 Speedway, Beaver Dam Raceway and Gravity Park Speedway. We post weekly updates on our Shark Motorsports Facebook page throughout the season.โ
Baumann points to his first career A-main victory at Gravity Park Speedway on June 4, 2021 as the standout achievement of his racing career, so far.
โA highlight in my racing career for me would definitely be my first feature win last season,โ Baumann said. โThe team and I had been close that year before I got that first victory. It felt like a dream to finally cross the finish line in front of the field and take home that checkered flag. My whole family and crew was there that night, as well as a couple of sponsors. That made the whole night event better knowing that so many people who support me got to be there to share in the win.โ
Baumann relishes the multi-faceted challenges and rewards that racing provides.
โI enjoy the fact that racing is both a team and an individual sport,โ Baumann said. โI truly couldnโt do it without my crew and sponsors having my back through the ups and downs.โ
In addition to shooting for his first A-main victory at The Plymouth Dirt Track and mounting a run for a top finish in the PDTR B Mod standings this year, Baumannโs Shark Motorsports team is eager to venture to a few different tracks during the second half of the 2022 campaign.
โIn addition to running all of the scheduled B Mod events at Plymouth this year, we want a couple new tracks to our schedule,โ Baumann said. โSo far this year, we have added Beaver Dam Raceway, which is a track I loved racing at and canโt wait to get back down there later this year for both a regular night show and their first annual Duel at the Dam at the end of the season.
โWe are also hoping to head up to Shawano Speedway for their county fair, Outagamie Speedway in Seymour and Gravity Park Speedway in Chilton a couple more times and maybe some more depending on how were feeling,โ he said.
The pit crew members for Baumannโs Shark Motorsports team are Baumannโs mom and dad, Tom Thebolt, Mike Barts, Stephanie Pittner, J.T. Pokrzywinski, Blake Ryan, Marshall Walker and Sara Baumann.
The sponsors for the 2022 Shark Motorsports team are D&H Sales and Service, M&K Lawn Service, Eagle Valley Ag, Terryโs Lincoln Avenue Tap, Haucke Plumbing & Heating Inc., Reaction CBD, Heritage Foundry, Wisconsin Refrigerated, Edler Brothers Trucking, Martzahl Rigging and Crane, Bloonie Gift Party Store, County T Storage LLC, Rens Performance Motorsports, Joeโs Tires Two LLC, Walker Hotrods, Diamond Dog Wraps, Lead Foot Bodies, Shaw Racecars, Shark Motorsports, Jasonโs Design and J&H Industries.
