Gerald โJerryโ L. Schulz, 80, of rural Plymouth passed away Tuesday (June 28, 2022) at St. Agnes Hospital
in Fond du Lac.
Jerry was born July 11, 1941, in Plymouth, WI, a son of the late Wayland and Verna (Goldbeck) Schulz.
He was a 1959 graduate of Plymouth High School and furthered his education at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison, graduating from two agricultural short courses. On February 1, 1963, he was united
in marriage with Barbara โBarbโ Leverenz at Bethel United Methodist Church in New Holstein.
Jerry was employed at Tecumseh Products, Muth Factory, and Hayssen Manufacturing, but a lifelong
love of agriculture was always his first pursuit. He farmed in various capacities his entire life, raising
many different kinds of poultry. He was especially proud of his fancy chickens and pigeons, swine, mink,
fox, fishers, sheep, beef cattle, and sixteen breeds of dogs. He was especially proud of his hunting
breeds, springer spaniels and labs. Miniature schnauzers held a special place, beginning with the first
Schnauzer, Joy to the world, they were always part of the family and his companions in the house. Jerry
had an entrepreneurial spirit and was always looking to build his business and improve his farm. He had
a lifelong love of learning. Always looking for new things to try in practice on his farm. He was an early
adapter of conservation practices implementing no-till farming practices on his farm in the 70s. Jerry
was an avid sheep head player who never really felt he lost a hand; he just hadnโt played long enough to
win. He was active in the Plymouth FFA Alumni Association and was a proud member of the National
Rifle Association. He was an optimist who always saw the future as an opportunity for new growth and
ideas. He always felt blessed to have shared his life journey with his best friend and true partner, Barb
โSusieโ.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barb, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fredrick and Edith
Leverenz. He is further survived by his nieces and nephews: Loraine (David) Mueller, Christine (Paul)
Wiltzius, Mary Jo Starkson, Andrew Leverenz, Paul (Julie) Leverenz, Debora (Jeffrey) Goeldi, Karl (Stefani)
Leverenz, Thomas (Kristine) Leverenz, two step-brothers, Larry and Randy Schulz, and two step-sisters,
Dawn Schulz and Debbie Leckie.
