GRANT COUNTY, WI (WSAU) — Nearly one year after he went under the water trying to save a drowning boater, the body of Parker Kruse has been found.
A group of canoers along the Wisconsin River reported human remains on a sandbar in Grant County on Saturday afternoon and called the Sheriff’s Office.
Firefighters from the Blue River Fire Department helped Sheriff’s Officers reach the sandbar. Kruse’s family then met them at the area, where they were able to confirm the remains belonged to Krause.
Officers add that the group who found the remains were familiar with the story. Kruse went missing last July 4th. Krause jumped in the Wisconsin River in Sauk County to rescue another boater that had fallen in. After getting the boater to safety, the boat ran into him and Krause went under.
He was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident but it slipped off. The Wisconsin Riverside Resort canceled all 4th of July activities out of respect for the family following the accident.
