(Reuters) – U.S. Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday said the Supreme Court will investigate the leak of a draft decision – which he confirmed as authentic – indicating that a majority of the nine justices are set to overturn the constitutional right to abortion.
Roberts said in a news release issued by the court that the draft opinion, dated from February, is authentic. He directed the court’s marshal to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.
“To the extent this betrayal of the confidences of the court was intended to undermine the integrity of our operations, it will not succeed. The work of the court will not be affected in any way,” Roberts said.
