Sheboygan County will be receiving nearly $58,000 ($57,904) to help cover costs of residential treatment for Medicaid recipients battling “opioid use disorder”, which is the official name for addiction to prescription pain killers, fentanyl and heroin.
Federal law prohibits Medicaid from reimbursing residential substance use disorder treatment providers for a client’s room and board expenses. Such costs are the primary reason keeping Medicaid members from enrolling in those programs.
Governor Evers had included opioid treatment funds in his budget proposal, but the legislature didn’t approve them, and so the grants were funded as part of a multistate settlement with the opioid industry.
A total of $2.5 million is being spent statewide; awards for each recipient were based upon the number of people being served, room and board rates and the average length of stay for a client.
