GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — The German Rekordmeister may be coming to Titletown this summer.
Bayern Munich, winners of nine straight German Bundesliga titles and 31 top-flight league championships overall, will reportedly take part in a preseason exhibition match against England’s Manchester City at Lambeau Field on July 23rd.
The Packers have yet to confirm the details but have confirmed that they do want to host more events at Lambeau outside of Packer’s games.
The Rekordmeister, German for record champion, have also won numerous European titles and German national titles (competitions open to all professional clubs in a given country).
Manchester City boasts seven Premier League titles and 28 trophies in all domestic and European competitions. Both clubs are in contention to win their respective leagues this year as well and remain alive in the UEFA Champions League competition.
Exhibitions in North America between European clubs have become commonplace in the last decade with the growth of interest in Europe’s top-flight leagues and clubs. The match could be part of a wider tour for Bayern, who are also rumored to be lining up an exhibition against MLS side DC United.
