JEFFERSON COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) — A highly pathogenic strain of the avian flu has been detected in a commercial chicken flock in Southeast Wisconsin.
Officials on Monday said they’re not sure of the specific flu strain, only that it’s an H5 strain and while it is not believed to impact humans, it is fatal to birds.
It’s the first case of highly pathogenic avian flu confirmed in Wisconsin since 2015.
The birds at the farm will be killed to prevent the spread of the disease.
