MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Wisconsin’s Republican Party has appealed last week’s decision regarding political maps to the nation’s highest court.
In a filing on Monday, the GOP asked the US Supreme Court to overturn Wisconsin’s high court, which chose the political maps endorsed by Governor Tony Evers because they bring as little change as possible.
The 4-3 decision saw Justice Brian Hagedorn side with the Court’s liberal caucus.
It’s unclear if the US Supreme Court will take the case. If they reject it, the Wisconsin Supreme Court’s ruling would stand.
The maps are still seen as conservative-leaning, though they could result in closer races in at least two Congressional districts and may not give Republicans the same majority that they currently enjoy in the Assembly and Senate.
