NEW YORK (Reuters) – A mediator on Wednesday said she has extended a deadline for negotiations by the Sackler family, who own Purdue Pharma LP, to resolve widespread litigation alleging that they fueled the opioid epidemic, and bring the OxyContin maker a step closer to exiting bankruptcy.
In a filing with a New York bankruptcy court, the mediator Shelley Chapman said she will file a further mediation report “at the appropriate time.”
The Sacklers have been negotiating with eight states and the District of Columbia, after a previous settlement that included a $4.3 billion cash payment had been blocked.
