The total number of COVID-19 cases recorded during the pandemic in Sheboygan County increased by 4.42% over the weekend, as another 1,090 confirmed positives raised the total to 25,723 cases since March of 2020. 4,636 have been added so far in 2022. As of Monday, January 17, 4,351 cases were active, an increase of 833 since Friday. Recoveries in the same time were 270, only about a quarter as numerous as the new positives. 3.76% of county residents are now actively battling the coronavirus.
Another death, this one to a resident in their 70s, has been attributed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, raising the county toll to 189. Of the casualties so far, one was between 10 and 19 years old, four were in their 30s, seven were in their 40s, eight were in their 50s, twenty-eight were in their 60s, forty-six were in their 70s and ninety-five were at least 80 years old.
The number of persons hospitalized so far in the county increased by six to 1,103, while the number of active hospitalizations decreased by 4, to 45 current patients.
The level of community transmission is considered “High” in Sheboygan County, as the Case Rate, or total number of new cases in the last 7 days per 100,000 persons, increased by 110.97 points to 2,184.84. One of the few decreases in statistics came in the percent of tests coming back positive at 31.6%, a decrease of 1/2 of 1 percent.
The number of persons in Sheboygan County having received at least one dose of vaccine increased by 79 since Friday, and 70,919 have now gotten at least one shot. That’s 61.5% of the county population. 58.0% are fully vaccinated, with 66,887 persons now protected, an increase of 62 since Friday. 821 doses were administered in Sheboygan County last week.
Facility-wide investigations saw an increase of 3 nursing homes compared to a week ago, while education facilities numbered the same at 45.
