MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Despite urging from Donald Trump, former Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy won’t run for Governor.
Duffy said on Jay Weber’s talk show on WISN radio that he won’t challenge Tony Evers this fall. Trump had urged Duffy to run last month. At the time Duffy said he was evaluating his options, although he took no steps to begin a campaign.
Duffy also said Thursday that he would not be a candidate for U.S. Senate if Ron Johnson decides not to seek another term.
Duffy, who served 5 terms from the 7th congressional district representing Wausau and northern Wisconsin, stepped down in 2019 as he and his wife were expecting their 9th child. Duffy said his daughter was diagnosed prior to birth with heart complications.
Duffy, and his wife Rachael Campos-Duffy, are current contributors for the Fox News Channel. They presently live in New Jersey.
Former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch is the likely Republican nominee to face Evers.
