BONDUEL, WI (WTAQ-WSAU) – Thick fog across the state is contributing to multiple accidents.
That includes a multi-vehicle pileup in Shawano County on State Highway 29 eastbound near County Highway F this morning, just east of Bonduel.
Witnesses like Veronica Klepp say the area was shrouded in fog making it difficult to see. She described the scene as a mess. “Got to be at least 12, including a semi, a U-Haul, at least 3 or 4 pickup trucks, at least 3 or 4 cars,” she told WTAQ radio.
Klepp says one person was out of their vehicle trying to divert traffic, but his efforts mainly fell short. “It was a man, he was waving his arms, trying to alert the traffic to not go that way. But you can’t even see.”
There’s no word at this time on injuries in that incident. As of 1 PM, the eastbound lanes remain closed.
Multiple callers to WSAU radio in Wausau reported a multi-vehicle pileup on Highway 13 between Medford and Abbotsford. One reported traffic was at a stand-still, but he couldn’t tell how many vehicles were involved.
One northbound lane of traffic is also closed off on US 51 north of Wausau near the Village of Maine.
Drivers throughout the state are being encouraged to slow down and turn their headlights on low if they do have to be out.
