Jack “John” M. Rood, 84, of Sheboygan, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at St.
Nicholas Hospital. He was born July 26, 1937, in Perry, MI to the late Burl and Mary (Rundell)
Rood. Jack graduated from Morrice High School with the Class of 1954. He then went on to
graduate from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL.
On July 26, 1958, he was united in marriage to Betty Vonk in Hudsonville, MI. They celebrated
63 years together.
Jack was a faithful servant of Christ and was committed to Christian Ministry. He directed both
the RBM Ministries and the Association of North American Missions organizations. Later in his
career he was the General Manager at Towsley’s.
Jack will be remembered as a loving, humble, gentle man who had a heart for people, and
passion for others to know Christ. Jack led mission trips to Cambodia and the Philippines. He
had a passion for writing and authored his own biography. Jack was a loving husband, father
and grandfather. His family was his pride and joy. His children are grateful for how he raised
them, and his grandchildren will cherish and treasure the memory of his “bear hugs”.
Jack is survived by is wife Betty, children; Steve (Wella) Rood, Mary (John) Niedermeyer, Tom
Rood, and Phil (Jackie) Rood, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He is further
survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 12:00 Noon at Immanuel
Bible Church, 2428 Superior Ave. Sheboygan, with Pastor Curtis Lamansky officiating. Relatives
and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM
at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral & Cremation Care Center, 1201 N. 8 th St. Sheboygan, and again on
Wednesday, December 15, 2021, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the CHURCH.
If you are unable to attend the service, it will be livestreamed on Jack’s obituary page on the
funeral homes website.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Jack’s name.
