MADISON, WI (WRN) – The Wisconsin Senate is scheduled to vote on new legislative and congressional districts maps today.
The maps were drawn by Republicans who hold the majority in the Wisconsin legislature, and have been analyzed as being heavily gerrymandered.
Republican Senator Duey Stroebel defended the Republican-drawn maps, during last week’s committee vote advancing them
“There’s a whole lot that agree on, with what is an appropriate neutral principle to adhere to for redistricting.”
Democrat, Senator Kelda Roys, noted the maps are not too different from those drawn by Republicans a decade ago.
“They’re just a ten year-old Gerrymander, and they don’t deserve the kind of deference that they’re being given by Republicans.”
The state Assembly will vote on the maps Thursday, setting up am almost certain veto by Democratic Governor Tony Evers.
A final decision on new maps will most likely be made by a federal court or the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
