MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced that no licenses have been issued to hunters or trappers for the fall wolf hunt that was scheduled to begin November 6th.
“In accordance with the court order and the department’s ongoing plans, the DNR will continue working towards [the] promulgation of rules and the completion of a wolf management plan to guide management decisions,” says the DNR.
The statement adds that if anyone suspects wolves are threatening or harming livestock, pets, or otherwise showing dangerous behavior they should reach out to the USDA Wildlife Services Staff immediately. In northern Wisconsin, call 1-800-228-1368 or 715-369-5221; if you are in southern Wisconsin, call 1-800-433-0663 or 920-324-4514.
Hunters did get a chance to hunt the once-protected animal this spring, taking an estimated total of 216 wolves in just a few days. The quota for that hunt was 119.
