GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin Public Service is partnering with area police to protect its customers from con artists.
The utility is asking police departments and sheriff’s departments across northeast and north central Wisconsin to share the warning signs of utility scams on social media.
“Wisconsin Public Service has partnered with law enforcement agencies to let our customers know about the warning signs of a scam.”

“We are sharing a social media post that highlights the warning signs of a scam. We’re hoping that we can put this out across social media.”
Cullen there’s the typical things like threatening to shut off the power or asking a customer to pay with a prepaid card. But he also says the bad guys are always thinking of new angles.
“Something we’ve recently started to notice is scammers may also ask for payment through unusual payment options like 3rd party apps or even cryptocurrency.”
WPS says over the years, customers have lost thousands of dollars in utility scams. If you think a scammer is targeting you, hang up!
