MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers moved no closer to a division title after a 6-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday at American Family Field.
The Cubs used a big five-run eighth inning to build a 6-2 lead going into the final frame. Milwaukee was able to make things interesting thanks to a two-run double from Christian Yelich, but the Brewers could not draw any closer.
Kolten Wong led the offense, going 1 for 5 with two runs and an RBI. Yelich had one hit and two RBI’s in four plate appearances. As a team, the Brewers stranded 26 men on base.
Eric Lauer pitched into the 5th inning, allowing one hit and one earned run. Brad Boxberger was tagged with the loss and a blown save after allowing two hits and three earned runs in the 8th without recording an out.
The Brewers’ magic number to clinch the division and a bye into the NLDS remains three over the St. Louis Cardinals, who come to town on Monday to begin a four-game series.
Monday night’s game can be heard in Sheboygan on 106.5 The Buzz, as WHBL will be airing the Packers/Lions Monday night game.
