The Overwatch League has canceled its live postseason events due to COVID-19 concerns.
“Our entire team has been working hard over the past several months to welcome you, our incredible fan community, back to live events for playoffs and Grand Finals in September,” the league posted on Twitter late Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, since we originally announced plans for the postseason, the environment has changed significantly. After continued consultation with our teams, we are no longer confident that all of them would be able to travel to the United States with their full rosters.”
The OWL postseason was scheduled to begin with an initial eight-team playoff bracket from Sept. 16-19 in Dallas, followed by a two-team Grand Finals event in Los Angeles on Sept. 25. Both were to include live audiences.
Instead, West Region teams will travel to Hawaii to compete online — on the same server — against East Region teams in China or South Korea.
