GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — The Packers plan on taking a page from the Milwaukee Bucks playbook for their Week 1 game against New Orleans.
No, they won’t be running a pick-and-roll on 3rd and goal or setting up a full-court press, they’ll be hosting an outdoor watch party for the game in the Titletown District.
Festivities will begin at 1 PM with live music and Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens providing warm-up entertainment ahead of the 3:25 PM kickoff for the game between the Packers and Saints which will be shown on large projectors and screens throughout the area.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase in the area and carry-ins such as coolers, grills, lawn furniture, and folding chairs will not be permitted in the park.
Fans will not be required to wear face coverings to there will be signs encouraging them in all indoor spaces. Packers staff and other event workers will be masking up when indoors.
The Bucks famously drew crowds of 60,000 or more for their Deer District watch parties throughout the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals and Finals- leading NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to praise the outdoor development near Fiserv Forum and call it “a model” for other teams to follow.
The recently-opened Titletown District features high-end apartments and office space as well as outdoor recreation areas and a football field. The team is hopeful that the redeveloped area will help them land the 2024 NFL Draft, which is expected to be awarded later this fall.
Green Bay was hoping to get the 2022 event, but that was given to Las Vegas as a make-good for the 2020 draft which was held virtually because of the COVID-19 outbreak. The 2023 event is set to take place in Kansas City.
The Packers have also put in a bid to host six upcoming Big Ten Football Championship Games at Lambeau Field between 2024-2030.
