Samuel Vasquez Perez, Sr. passed away on Saturday, August 14th at the age of 82, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with determination and a smile. Despite the pain, Sam came out a hero and stayed strong and faithful to God and his loved ones to the end.
As a child, Sam was raised by his oldest sister and her husband, Louisa and Ignacio Torres, whom he affectionately called Mom and Dad. His life drastically changed when he surrendered his life to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a young man. From then on he always proclaimed the Gospel to anyone who would listen.
Sam met the love of his life, Mary, while attending youth meetings at their church in Brownsville, Texas. Shortly afterwards, they married and had two sons. They then decided to move with family to Wisconsin and had two daughters.
Attending church activities anchored his family to the Word of God. Both he and Mary were tremendous examples of being faithful church workers. Sam lived a godly legacy for his four children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren to follow.
He only finished the eighth grade, yet earned his GED later in life. Proving that he was a lifelong learner in everything from life skills to relationships. His work ethic was second to none! He was a union leader and welding instructor at work, a church leader in multiple capacities (i.e. pastor, deacon, Royal Ranger Commander, Sunday School teacher, bus driver, etc.). Also, he was “El Jefe” at home, where he led his family with a strong hand and caring heart. Finally, Sam was the self-proclaimed “King’s Kid,” and everyone knew his allegiance was to the lover of his soul – Jesus. Now, we can take comfort knowing that he is hand-in-hand with The Good Shepherd.
Sam was preceded in death by all of his parents and siblings. He is survived by his wife, Mary Perez; children, Abel (Rebecca) Perez and Sam (Lori) Perez Jr., Ana Luisa Perez and Sara (Dave) Ruckman. Also, there are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws who will miss his humor, laughter and godly wisdom.
A funeral service for Samuel will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at City Church, 2313 N. 31st Street, Sheboygan with Rev. Jose Luis Martinez, Rev. Chuck Apple and Rev.
