MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Half of Wisconsin residents have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
The state Department of Health Services said 53.2% of residents (3,095,453 people) had received at least one dose and 50% (2,911,596) had completed their vaccine series.
Friday’s DHS update also showed the seven-day average of new cases up again after falling on Thursday.
DHS said 1,487 people tested positive on Thursday, pushing the seven-day average to 1,139. Test positivity was at 7.1%.
As of Friday, all of Northeast Wisconsin was listed in the “substantial” or “high” category for virus transmission on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention map.
The seven-day average of deaths rose to three, with three deaths reported Thursday being linked to COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 635,933 total confirmed cases and 7,471 deaths.
Hospitalizations increased slightly on Friday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 609 COVID-19 patients, nine more than on Thursday and 191 more than a week earlier. Of those, 181 were in intensive care, up three in a day and 63 over a week.
Northeast region hospitals had 58 COVID-19 patients, eight more than on Thursday and 28 more than a week earlier. Of those, 17 were in ICUs, up one in a day and eight over a week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 45 COVID-19 patients, up four in a day and 27 over a week. Eight of those were in ICUs, two more than on Thursday and double the number a week earlier.
