The Sheboygan Common Council on Tuesday night formally accepted two $25,000 grants from the Wisconsin Coastal Management Program. Department of Administration Secretary Joel Brennan made the presentation last Thursday in a visit with Mayor Ryan Sorenson at the accessible boat launch at Kiwanis Park. That visit highlighted the partnership of local and state governments that enhances accessibility to outdoor recreation opportunities, creating stronger and more resilient communities.
Mayor Sorenson thanked the DOA and Secretary Brennan for recognizing local efforts and the importance of our water resources that he called “a treasure”. Sorenson said that the grants will help preserve that treasure for future generations as well.
One $25K grant will be used for comprehensive outdoor recreation and coastal resource planning while the other will be used for shoreline restoration. Another $20,000 was granted to the Bay-Lake Regional Planning Commission for technical assistance.
