A total of 44 new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the last week by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. In their weekly report, the agency says that the total for the pandemic now stands at 13,989, and the active case count increased 27 since last Thursday to 70. That’s an increase of 6 since Wednesday, and with the exception of this past Monday, represents an uninterrupted rise for the past two weeks and equals the 70 cases last reported on June 1st. There are no current hospitalizations in Sheboygan County, however six persons required such treatment within the last week. Of the two deaths due to COVID that were reported within the past week, one was in their 70s and the other was at least 80 years old. 154 victims have now been recorded in Sheboygan County.
Sheboygan County is now experiencing a “high” activity level, with a current burden rate of 76.8 per 100,000 persons and a trajectory that’s growing at 90% over the previous week.
In light of the dominance of the highly-contagious “Delta” variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the Centers for Disease Control has updated its recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals, and is advising those persons to wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of “substantial or high transmission.” Sheboygan County is listed by the CDC as having “moderate” transmission, and so persons may choose to forego the mask. However, the CDC advises that fully vaccinated people might still choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission, particularly if they are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID-19, or if they have someone in their household who is similarly affected or is not fully vaccinated. Also, the neighboring counties of Calumet, Washington and Ozaukee are experiencing substantial transmission levels, while Fond du Lac and Manitowoc Counties share our level of “moderate” transmission.
Vaccinations have now been completed by 48.1% of Sheboygan County’s population, or 55,477 persons. For those 18 and older, that figure is 60.9%. At least one dose has been administered to 57,877, or 50.2%, and that rises to 52,878, or 58.7% for those 18 and older.
