Fireworks on the 4th are fun, but the Sheboygan Police Department says: “Not here.” The fact is that all fireworks are illegal to possess or discharge within Sheboygan city limits, even if they were purchases and possessed legally in other parts of the state. If you’re caught with them, you could be paying more than $376 per violation, and if you’re the parent or legal guardian who consents to the use of fireworks by a minor, you’ll also have to ante up. Also, if those fireworks are discharged in a crowded area, criminal charges could be issued.
The city ordinance on fireworks describes them as “anything manufactured, processed or packaged for exploding, emitting sparks or combustion, which does not have another common use.” In other words…you can light a match, but that’s about as far as it goes; even caps for a cap gun aren’t allowed in Sheboygan.
Your best option? Enjoy the show at the lakefront on Saturday night.
