The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development has painted an impressive picture of job recovery in the Sheboygan area following last year’s pandemic-strapped situation.
In non-seasonally adjusted data released on Wednesday, the Sheboygan Metropolitan Area saw a workforce of 61,800 in May. While that’s a drop of 700 from April, it represents a gain of 5,800 over May last year. The unemployment rate in May was 3.3%, a net change of 8.2% over last year – the largest gain noted among the state’s 12 metro areas.
The city of Sheboygan itself had an even larger gain compared to last year when May saw an unemployment rate of 14.5%. That fell this year to 4.2%.
The DWD also says that Sheboygan County had Wisconsin’s 8th best unemployment rate in May, tied with six other counties at 3.3%.
