Attention to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic may be waning in many corners of society as vaccination rates slump, restrictions ease and life seems to be returning to normal. But the coronavirus remains a deadly threat, as evidenced by the second death due to COVID-19 so far this week in Sheboygan County.
Little is known other than the 149th victim of the pandemic was reported in data supplied on Wednesday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health via the Sheboygan County Coronavirus Case Dashboard. The last daily update, which typically contains more details, was issued this past Friday, and the first weekly update is due on Thursday.
30 of the 13,882 cases reported here so far are still active, the lowest number since last July 2nd when the same number of cases were being monitored in Sheboygan County. There are no hospitalizations currently reported here.
Vaccination rates continue to slump, and Wisconsin is destined to miss President Biden’s goal of 70% vaccination by July 4th. 49.8% of Wisconsin, or 2,897,121 persons, have received at least one dose, and 45.5%, or 2,650,158, have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. In Sheboygan County, percentages are lower than state figures, with 48.1%, or 55,502 receiving at least one dose, and 44.4%, or 51,222 having completed the vaccination series.
