DENVER, CO (WSAU-WHBL) – The Milwaukee Brewers split a four-game weekend series with the Rockies with a 7-6 win in Denver on Sunday.
Kolten Wong led the way, going 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and two runs scored from the leadoff spot, including a two-run homer in the 5th inning. Daniel Vogelbach finished 2 for 5 with two singles and one RBI, which turned out the be the game-winner.
CJ Cron, Joshua Fuentes, Trevor Story, and Yonathan Daza were among the Rockies that all hit home runs in a six-run 6th inning which knotted the game up at 6 heading into the late innings. It would stay that way until the 9th when Vogelbach put the Brewers ahead with an RBI single to score Jace Peterson.
Brad Boxberger was called in for the 9th. He allowed a two-out single before Charlie Blackmon grounded out to end the game.
Eric Lauer was given a no-decision in the start after allowing three runs in the 6th. The other three were charged to Zack Godley who was given a blown save. Devin Williams was credited with the win.
Josh Hader was given the afternoon off as the closer due to his recent workload and Milwaukee’s current stretch of 33 games in 34 days.
The win moves Milwaukee to 40-32 on the season and back into a first-place tie with the Cubs. They’ll continue their NL West swing Monday evening, as they open up a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
