8 recoveries from COVID-19 since Tuesday have more than offset the 5 new positive test results received by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, lowering the active case count here by 3 to 76 cases. 13,774 cases in all have been detected in Sheboygan County since the beginning of the pandemic. Deaths remain unchanged since yesterday at 143, and hospitalizations are stable at 5.
Progress against the coronavirus pandemic in Sheboygan County was obvious when examining the 2-week rates and trajectories compiled by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. In the 14-day period ending May 18, the activity level was lowered to “Medium”, with a moderately high burden of 66.4 cases per 100,000 persons, and a trajectory that was 44% lower than previously calculated. Over the past 7 days, the daily average confirmed case count was 4. That compares favorably against the state overall, which had a “High” level of activity and a burden rate of 107.5 per 100,000. And considering the surrounding counties, only Washington County shared the “Medium” activity level, while Manitowoc, Calumet, Fond du Lac and Ozaukee Counties remained “High”.
Five more deaths reported by the State DHS raises the death toll in Wisconsin to 6,976, while 383 new confirmed cases put the running total at 607,138. 71 more persons were hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19, and the Wisconsin Hospitals Association recorded a net drop of 31 COVID patients with 285 now receiving treatment. 79 of those are in ICU beds, and 375 ventilators are in use statewide.
If current trends continue, Sheboygan County is on track to record the fewest weekly vaccinations since the week of January 17th. So far, 866 doses have been administered this week. As of Wednesday morning, 51,038 persons in Sheboygan County have received at least one dose of vaccine, and 44,878, or 38.9%, are fully vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
