Two more Sheboygan County residents age 80 or older have died of COVID-19, raising the death toll here to 140. The deaths came in Monday’s daily report from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, the first of the month of May. Those age 80+ account for 73 of the county’s casualties of the coronavirus pandemic, while those who were in their 70s numbered thirty-one. Twenty-two were in their 60s, five in their 50s, five in their 40s, three in their 30s, and one was between 10 and 19 years old.
The increasing death toll comes as vaccination rates decline. Data from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services indicate that 4,760 doses were given in Sheboygan County during the week of April 25th, compared with 6,666 during the previous week. Vaccinations peaked the week of April 4th when 9,191 county residents received vaccine. 81.6% of those 65 and older in the county have received at least one dose of vaccine; 76.3% of those are fully vaccinated. 34.6% of all age groups here have completed their vaccinations.
13,682 infections by the SARS-CoV-2 virus have now been confirmed in Sheboygan County after 23 positive results were added on Monday, while 24 recoveries were also reported. Hospitalizations, at three, were halved since Friday, and the active case count fell 3, to 123.
Since Friday, the Wisconsin DHS added 1,429 new cases of COVID-19 to the records, 349 of those on Monday. No new deaths were added in the update, and the toll is 6,839. 29 more persons were hospitalized, and there was no net change in the patient population of 315. 98 of those are in ICU beds, and ventilators in use number 402.
