MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Attorney General Josh Kaul has formally announced a state investigation into abuse by Clergy and other Faith Leaders in the state including the creation of statewide hotlines to take reports from victims.
“The people of Wisconsin, and especially victims, deserve an independent review of clergy and faith leader abuse,” said Kaul through a press release. “With this initiative, we are seeking to ensure that survivors of clergy and faith leader abuse have access to needed victim services, to help prevent future cases of sexual assault, and to get accountability to the extent possible.”
Tuesday’s announcement included details about how survivors, current victims, or anyone else with information about abuse can make their reports to the state. That includes visiting SupportSurvivors.widoj.gov or by calling 1-877-222-2620.
Kaul made the announcement along with representatives of AWAKE Milwaukee and Nate’s Mission, two groups aimed at addressing the issue of abuse in the Catholic Church. District Attornies from four counties that host Catholic Diocese in the state were also present.
