The Sheboygan County Memorial Airport officially became “international” on Monday as the new U.S. Customs facility opened for direct arrivals from international locations. The $5 million project also included the airport’s new General Aviation terminal and airport administration offices where pilots and passengers, both foreign and domestic, are able to use the facility for a pit stop, check of the weather, or for meeting friends and families.
The project is a partnership between Sheboygan County, Kohler Company, and the Wisconsin Bureau of Aeronautics. Both corporate and general aviation aircraft alike are expected to use the facility.
Kohler’s Director of Aviation, John Kelchen, said that the presence of a local Customs and Boarder Patrol facility will enhance the attractiveness of international business growth and tourism for the entire area, especially for Kohler Corporate Aviation which is anticipating the influx of flights in support of the upcoming Ryder Cup golf tournament this September.
