MADISON, WI (WRN) – The state schools superintendent election being decided today will be the most expensive ever.
The race for Secretary of the Department of Public Instruction is between Pecatonica school district superintendent Jill Underly and former Brown Deer superintendent Deb Kerr.
Groups backing Kerr have been outspent, 719-thousand dollars to 209- thousand dollars on independent expenditures, according to filings with the state Ethics Commission. Add in pre-primary spending, and the outside investment exceeds one million dollars.
Underly has also outraised Kerr significantly, pulling in nearly a million and a half dollars compared to Kerr’s 169-thousand dollars.
Voters across Wisconsin will also be picking people to run their schools on this Election Day. Local races for school board, and school referendums are one the ballot.
There are several judicial races and state legislative races that are going to be decided as well.
The polls are open until 8 p.m., but don’t forget to bring your voter ID.
