GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — The President of the right-leaning MacIver Institute is celebrating the end of Wisconsin’s mask mandate.
Brett Healy appeared this morning (Thursday) on WTAQ’s ‘The Morning News with Matt and Earl’, saying that the decision wasn’t about whether or not Governor Tony Evers’ mandate was a good idea.
“The decision before them…was strictly whether or not he was acting within his constitutional limit,” Healy said.
The court ruled that Governor Evers was not, in fact, within his constitutional bounds in continuing to extend the state’s mask mandate and emergency order outside of the 60-day statutory window for emergency declarations.
If he wants a new mask mandate, it will have to be approved by the legislature, something Healy doesn’t think is likely.
“I do think the legislature is going to be skeptical if the governor approaches them with a new statewide mask mandate,” said Healy. “I think the governor will instead implore local municipalities to pass their own restrictions.”
A number of municipalities, including Outagamie County, Oshkosh, and Green Bay have implemented their own mask mandates.
